About the opportunity
Australia's siloed health system structure is inefficient and a major barrier to improving its performance. Collaborative Commissioning is an NSW Health initiative designed to address this, by establishing regional funding and decision-making models. Through an NHMRC partnership grant, the Menzies Centre for Health Policy and Economics is working with the George Institute for Global Health and other academic and institutional partners to co-design an evaluation of the initiative.
The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint an academic Research Associate to contribute with health system expertise to work which will investigate local implementation as well as system change and reform. Based on the Camperdown campus within the Menzies Centre.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Conduct research and/or scholarly activities under the limited supervision of senior academic staff, either independently or as part of a research team
- develop and refine research skills and independent research under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the School/ Faculty (with an increasing degree of autonomy)
- undertake administration primarily related to their activities at the University
- attend and contributes to School/Faculty/Portfolio meetings
- informally provide mentoring and guidance to students (where appropriate)
- maintain an understanding of the University's strategic agenda and contributes to furthering that agenda
- contribute to the strategic direction of the Faculty/School/Portfolio as articulated through the Faculty/School/Portfolio's Strategic Plan/s or equivalent.
- High-level understanding of the Australian Health System
- developed knowledge and understanding of the key issues in the higher education sector
- demonstrated understanding of the subject matter within the discipline
- experience working in local or regional health policy or administration
- have a Master of Public Health (or equivalent)
- commenced higher degree research in related field
- high-level understanding of the Australian Health System
- high-level understanding of medical records and health data systems.
