Job description

King’s College London is looking for an exceptional Stakeholder & Engagement Officer to work across ­the Policy Institute and UK in a Changing Europe; two high-profile units whose work regularly generates significant media attention that helps shape the political and policy debate in the UK and Europe. 

 

The successful candidate will support the design and delivery of a range of high-level events, including public panel discussions and lectures (both online and in-person), workshops, seminars and more.

 

Alongside this, the post holder will help develop our stakeholder relations, building relationships across key sectors to ensure our work has even greater impact. This includes assisting on engagement with the Policy Institute’s Visiting Faculty of current and former political leaders, civil servants and researchers. In terms of UK in a Changing Europe, it will involve mainting an overview of relations with key stakeholder groups, and ensuring the contacts database is updated regularly.  

 

They will contribute to communications and promotional activities, ensuring that the units’ work reaches the right audiences through appropriate channels.

 

The job would suit someone who’s highly organised, digitally savvy, with an excellent knowledge of politics and policy.

 

UKICE background

The ESRC funds the   UK in a Changing Europe initiative, which since the Brexit referendum has been focused on its outcome and the practicalities of implementing the UK’s historic decision to leave the EU. Based within the Policy Institute at King’s College London, the initiative’s work is tailored to be easily accessible to policymakers, businesses, journalists, civil society organisations, educational institutions and the general public who are interested in the UK’s relationship with the EU.  

 

This post will be offered on a full-time, fixed term contract until 30th April 2025.

 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Providing operational support to the Policy Institute’s Events and Stakeholder Manager and UKICE’s Events Officer on in-person and online events  
  • Developing new stakeholder relations, identifying key individuals and organisations to engage with on our work, and finding new ways to involve the Policy Institute’s Visiting Faculty and UKICE’s wide range of non-academic stakeholders in our work.  
  • Building our contact databases, ensuring that we have strong representation from different stakeholders and sectors and that information is well organised 
  • Helping to maintain webpages by keeping sections up to date with our latest events and work 
  • Supporting the Policy Institute’s social media presence by drafting promotional posts and using templates to produce simple graphics 
  • Working with the Policy Institute Digital Communications Officer to provide information on online engagement with our work, using platforms such as Google Analytics and Hootsuite 
  • Taking on various, bespoke UK in a Changing Europe stakeholder projects, managing these from conception to conclusion 
  • Monitoring shared inboxes and helping to provide a professional response to enquiries 

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.  

Skills, knowledge and experience 

Essential criteria

1.       Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience  

2.       Experience of working in a relevant professional environment (for example in politics, academia, a charity or a think tank) 

3.       Experience of building relationships and partnerships with a range of stakeholders, be they in academia, government, industry or the private/charitable sectors 

4.       Fluent command of English (both spoken and written) and an excellent attention to detail 

5.       A good knowledge of online platforms such as Mailchimp, Eventbrite, Zoom and MS Teams, as well as digital marketing more generally 

6.       A keen interest in politics, policy and research 

7.       An ability to prioritise under pressure and to contribute to multiple projects/events at once 

8.       A highly organised approach to work with the proven ability to take the initiative and make decisions based on good judgement 

9. A confident, engaging and professional manner; a proactive and collaborative attitude; a keenness to support others

 

Desirable criteria  

1.       Relevant professional/digital marketing qualifications 

2.       Experience of working within higher education 

3.       Graphic design skills (Adobe or similar)
