Applications are invited for the following full-time position in the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health:

Research Fellow for Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting a full-time, experienced research fellow to join the SPH-Lao Programme. The post is based in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Job scope:

• To undertake high-quality research, including contributing to drafting major grant proposals and/or leading in drafting small grant proposals;
• To contribute to peer-reviewed publications and other outputs, including as lead author;
• To contribute to master and/or doctoral student supervision, as appropriate to qualifications and experience;
• To manage small grants or elements of larger grants, ensuring compliance with good practice concerning the conduct of research, ethics and other relevant school policies;
• To provide analytical expertise related to various projects within the programme;
• To undertake statistical and/or epidemiological research and analysis as directed and according to expertise and experience;
• To develop novel research ideas focused on the public health priorities in the Lao People's Democratic Republic;
• To undertake activities that support SSHSPH and partners in Lao institutions;
• To demonstrate good external citizenship by contributing to learned society/conference events, journal and grant reviews etc.;
• To undertake and complete the mandatory training required by SSHSPH appropriate to the role.

Requirements:

• A postgraduate doctorate degree, ideally in public health, social science, epidemiology, or a similarly relevant field.
• Excellent working knowledge of statistical analysis packages, preferably R and Stata
• Proven capacity to handle the statistical analysis of large, complex datasets.
• Contributions to written output, preferably peer-reviewed, as expected by the subject area/discipline in terms of types and volume of outputs.
• Experience in publishing public health research.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.

The following knowledge and experience would be advantageous:

• Substantive post-qualification experience working in public health research.
• Ability to work (read, write, speak, understand) in both English and Lao.
• Some experience contributing to research grant applications.
• Some experience in teaching and assessment.
• Some experience supervising and supporting junior researchers and/or postgraduate students and non-academic staff.

The grade of appointment will be accorded based on candidate’s academic qualifications and years of relevant experience.
