Applied Social Studies at the University are in an exciting phase of growth with the approval and further development of the professional Master of Social Science (Social Work) programme. As part of the further development of the programme and team, we are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as a Lecturer in Social Work. The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage, and experience of professional practice and professional education. They will contribute to the implementation of the MSocSc (Social Work) programme and undertake teaching duties on the Department’s other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of postgraduate students as appropriate.

The person appointed will teach across the Social Work programme including on practice education. They will also provide academic oversight and support for the practice education dimensions of the Social Work programme including fieldwork practice placement and continuing professional development. The person appointed will work under the leadership of the Social Work Progamme Lead/Director and HOD and in close collaboration with the Practice Development Coordinator (Social Work) on practice education issues.

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile that supports the University’s research strategy, including affiliating to the Research Institutes where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.

Assistant Professor / Lecturer (Post 1995*): €55,951 – €88,601 p.a. (7 points)

Assistant Lecturer (2021): €35,598 – €62,211 p.a. (14 points)

* Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions
