Description

The Water Research Center, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work on water treatment and desalination.

The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on membrane development and pilot-scale studies in fabrication and testing of polymer and ceramic membranes for wastewater treatment using various membrane processes. Our center advances membrane technology for desalination and water treatment through polymer synthesis, membrane fabrication, materials characterization, benchtop and pilot-scale testing. The candidate will conduct research in upscaling effects of fabrication from bench-scale to pilot-scale, fouling control in membrane separation processes and performance testing of membranes for nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, microfiltration and ultrafiltration to treat industrial wastewater effluents. The candidate will work with a diverse team of scientists engineers, graduate students and undergraduate students.

The successful applicant will manage projects, build deep technical knowledge and develop transferable solutions. He/she will participate in developing novel concepts and writing proposals. He/she will work towards solving complex problems with efficiency and creativity. He/she will be involved in writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents and presenting results at conferences. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of wastewater treatment, membrane fabrication techniques, separation processes and operation of pilot-scale plants. He/she will be detail-oriented, well-organized and will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Applicants must have a PhD in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, environmental engineering or related field. Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (in particular membrane fabrication, characterization and testing) are required. Candidates with peer reviewed publications in a related area, along with prior expertise in membrane separation processes will be preferred.

This position will begin in September 2022 as a two-year contract, renewable depending on performance. The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children.
