The School of Ocean and Earth Science (SOES) is seeking to recruit a 2-year Teaching Fellow to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and MSc level on geophysics and quantitative geoscience modules. The role would specifically contribute to development and teaching of Geophysics/Quantitative Geoscience modules, including field teaching, at Year 3 and 4 undergraduate and MSc levels within SOES to students from a range of backgrounds. The role would involve development and marking of assessments, and supporting students in their studies.

SOES is based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), on the University of Southampton’s Waterfront Campus. NOCS brings together over 500 researchers and support staff drawn from geoscience, physics, chemistry, biology and engineering. SOES graduates over 250 undergraduate and masters students every year and hosts a graduate school of ~200 students. The Geology and Geophysics Research Group is renowned for its expertise in marine geology and geophysics, tectonics, and quantitative geoscience approaches to Earth science problems.

Applicants will have a PhD (to include thesis submission, awaiting viva) or equivalent professional qualification and experience in geophysics or quantitative geoscience. Applicants will have a detailed understanding and knowledge of geophysical techniques, including a broad range of types of data handling and analysis, and will have teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. Knowledge of computer-based modelling and data analysis techniques and software, and experience with field-based training in geophysical survey methods for a broad range of students would be desirable.

This is a full time, fixed term post of 2 years starting in on September 1st, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
