Job description

The School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast is seeking to appoint exceptional candidates to the posts of Lecturer (x 2) and Senior Lecturer in one or more of the following areas: Family Law, Company Law, Land Law, Tort, and Equity.

You will be joining a vibrant community of scholars committed to making a difference to society through delivering excellence in research and teaching. The School is ranked 8th in the UK for Law in REF 2021 (Times Higher Education), the UK wide assessment of research quality in universities, with the highest possible rating for the impact of its research on society. Your research will complement or augment our existing research groups and develop research that complements our existing research strengths.

You will be involved in teaching on our undergraduate Law programme and on postgraduate, including postgraduate supervision, as required and you will be committed to delivering an excellent student experience.

The successful candidate(s) must have and your CV/Cover letter (or application form) should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • A degree in Law.
  • Hold or be about to obtain a PhD in Law or cognate discipline.
  • Applicants at Senior Lecturer level should have a completed PhD in Law.
  • A publication record commensurate with stage of career, evidencing ability to publish peer reviewed/refereed outputs that are REF returnable at international/world leading level.
  • Research interests that are sustainable and which complement the research strategy of the School of Law.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of appropriate external research income opportunities to support research.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of how to engage external stakeholders with research and significance of impact agenda.
  • Applicants at Senior Lecturer level must demonstrate an international reputation within their subject specialism and a sustained publication record in peer reviewed/refereed that are REF returnable at international/world leading level.
  • Where appropriate, demonstrate success in obtaining research funding or other resources to underpin research, through competitive national or international peer-reviewed processes and/or the ability to seek such funding.
  • Relevant teaching experience in a law school context, commensurate with stage in career.
  • Ability to contribute to the teaching of at least one of the following: Land, Equity, Contract, Family Law, Company Law.
  • Demonstrable ability to offer teaching in subjects at postgraduate level including on Law & Innovation/ and/or International Business Law and/or Masters in Law at postgraduate level, commensurate with stage of career.
  • Applicants at Senior Lecturer level must demonstrate substantial teaching experience at University level, and ability to make a significant contribution to programme development that aligns with School strategic aims.
  • Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes, commensurate with stage of career.
  • Demonstrate collegiality and commitment to contribute to the School community.
  • Applicants at Senior Lecturer level must demonstrate contribution to a wider range of administrative and leadership tasks at a more strategic level.
