Job Description
Job Purpose
The NUSmed Cardiovascular Disease Translational Research Programme is established as a network of laboratories working on a wide breadth of cardiovascular research topics, ranging from genomics, epigenomics, biomarkers, molecular and cellular biology, as well as clinical research.
This position is specifically to work in the lab of Roger Foo, which focuses on cardiovascular genomics and epigenomics.
Job description:
We are seeking to implement, adapt and improve tools for the study of human genetic variants. Specifically using random barcoding for synthesized or extracted genomic fragments to functionally characterize regulatory elements and associated genetic variants (see Arensbergen et al & Gordon et al). This work builds upon previous studies whereby we have mapped the epigenome in human heart tissues and identified correlations between genetic variants and altered histone acetylation (Tan et al). In addition, other related projects ongoing in the lab pertain to development of regulatory elements for biotechnology and biomedicine through functional testing.
Responsibilities
Dry Laboratory:
- Implementation and adaptation of existing pipelines for massively parallel reporter assays to characterize the activity of regulatory regions and genetic variants
- Input into the design and optimization of MPRA assays in the wet-lab to achieve sufficient quality data
- If necessary, occasional guidance to wet-lab on experimental approach
- Analysis, selection and prioritization of genetic variants for targeted assays
- Advise and liaise with other students and post-docs in the lab for their bioinformatics analyses
- Drive own academic career development through networking and publication Admin:
- Management of NGS datasets
Qualifications
The applicant should:
- Hold a PhD degree in biological or computational sciences
Skills:
- Independent, with strong emphasis on team work
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, is meticulous, organized, proactive and have an investigative nature
- High level proficiency in NGS bioinformatics pipelines
- Enthusiasm for academia and research
