Role Description

About the Role

You will be responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality teaching and tutorials as part of the taught MSc programme in Aerospace Vehicle Design (Avionics Option), providing support to the Group Design Project element of the MSc, and supervising research (MSc/PhD) students. You will also be actively engaged in research within the fields of Avionics, spanning across crewed and un-crewed vehicles and the wider avionics ecosystem, including ground-based systems infrastructure such as ATM. Our academics are supported and encouraged to build their research teams and wider networks through successful research funding applications and this role involves significant communication and collaboration within the University and with our network of industrial partners.

This position requires the ability to develop business opportunities and attract income, and good project and time management skills, ensuring that milestones and deliverables are achieved to time and to high quality.

About You

For this opportunity, you will need to have industrial experience and direct experience of practical Avionics Systems Design and Integration including experience in aircraft/UAV flight control system design, development and integration. Also expected would be some experience of coding and development with RTOS and networking, along with evidence of collaborative working with other discipline specialists.  Also important is for you to have strong knowledge and experience of INS/GPS, aircraft GNC/CNS system design and development, cockpit design/HMI, or IMA design and avionics integration. Successful applicants will have a strong track record of publication of papers in leading international journals and teaching experience at postgraduate Masters’ level, preferably with a teaching qualification.  You will be able to demonstrate that you are a natural collaborator and show a strong desire to deliver impactful research into real products and services within the aerospace industry.

At the Senior Lecturer level, we expect the candidate to provide leadership, such as in course management, business development, preparing large funding bids, acting as a Principal Investigator on large, funded research projects and managing collaborative networks of researchers linked with industry.

You will be educated to doctoral level in a relevant subject such as aeronautical/aerospace/ electronic engineering and have proven research experience. Alternatively, you will hold a relevant MSc degree with extensive practical industrial experience in the fields of avionics, CNS/ ATM. You will be highly computer literate, with expertise in MATLAB/Simulink in Windows, C/C++ and/or Ada in Linux environment would be ideal.
