About the opportunity

We are looking to recruit a Research Associate to contribute to two ARC funded research projects on "Long-term chemically induced crumbling of unsaturated brittle geomaterials" and "Physics-informed hydrodynamic model for clay across scales". Both projects address the unique problem of coupling artificial neural network and thermodynamics of soil materials, in order to develop a more complete understanding of material behaviour, which will require validation through machine learning experimental imaging.

Your key responsibilities will be to:]carry out experimental and theoretical research related to the ARC DP190103487 "Long-term chemically induced crumbling of unsaturated brittle geomaterials" and ARC DP220101164 "Physics-informed hydrodynamic model for clay across scales"

  • help supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • communicate the project results through participation at meetings, conferences, and academic publications in prominent peer-reviewed journals.

About you

  • a PhD (or near completion) in mechanics or related field
  • proven experience in coupling artificial intelligence and thermodynamic approaches for constitutive modelling
  • background in modelling geomaterials with discrete element method
  • background of knowledge in experimental image analysis
  • excellent track record of publications.
