About the opportunity

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Health is seeking a Research Engagement Officer to support the iSISTAQUIT project (Supporting Indigenous Smokers To Assist Quitting) project.

The iSISTAQUIT project aims to increase smoking cessation rates among expectant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers, by providing training and feedback for healthcare providers at Aboriginal Medical Services, primary care or hospital antenatal care in the delivery of culturally competent evidence-based smoking cessation care.

This position will undertake research, support the project and work closely with the community and health care providers to increase engagement, awareness and outcomes of the project.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate research field activities including travel, WHS, monitoring and tracking field equipment and instrumentation, provision of advice and training to fieldworkers and provision of support in the field.
  • Support the Senior Project Manager in the design, development and implementation of an effective communication and cultural liaison plan. 
  • Provide administrative support for the planning, development and implementation for engagement, recruitment and retention of Aboriginal and mainstream health organisations in conjunction with the Senior Project Manager.

About you

ou will bring an understanding of Indigenous culture and will use your relationship building skills to increase awareness and engagement, ensuring success of this project. More specifically, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in data collection and analysis. 
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and anticipate changing requirements.
  • Demonstrated digital literacy including the ability to use computer software packages such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Accuracy and attention to detail when recording data and information.

Salary and benefits

This position is:

  • Part-time (.08FTE), fixed term (12 Months) 
  • Located on Gumbaynggirr Country, Coffs Harbour
  • HEW Level 5. The base salary ranges from $59,189 -$65,816 per annum, plus 17% employers contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $77,005.
