About the position

We are seeking an innovative, collaborative, and impact-minded academic to join the School of Computing Technologies at RMIT University as Associate Professor or Professor.

With this appointment we are looking to support the interdisciplinary and innovation objectives of the School, including fostering collaborations across the College of STEM and with other parts of the university, such as the College of Design and Social Context. We welcome applicants with expertise in areas including Creative Computing and innovative interfaces, Communication technology and digital media studies, Digital Health and Computational Biology, in addition to high-impact areas of traditional Computer science.

You will provide leadership and foster excellence in teaching and research efforts of the School, within the University, and with the community, professional, commercial and industrial sectors. More specifically, you will be responsible for providing original, innovative and distinguished contributions to the School's programs for maintaining and advancing your scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities relevant to this discipline at a national and international level.

You will make a significant contribution to teaching and learning in the discipline with the aim of improving learning outcomes for students. You will also make a significant contribution to the planning and strategic direction of the School, taking on academic leadership roles involving participation in various committees within the School, College and University and external to the University, as appropriate.

About the School

The School of Computing Technologies (SCT) is a centre for digital innovation, world class research, and education in STEM via streamlined collaboration across relevant disciplines. The School is led by the Dean, School of Computing Technologies, and has three disciplines: Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Systems and Security.

Our PhD students and faculty conduct world leading research in many areas of Computing, including in: Artificial Intelligence, Search and Recommendation, Data Science, Machine Learning, and Big Data Analysis, Distributed Computing and Cybersecurity Human-Computer Interaction.

SCT will fast-track digital innovation across all College teaching programs and elevate our external position as a leader in technology and digital innovation. The School's leadership is tasked with the significant responsibility of building the architecture and capability to position RMIT with a supercomputer capacity and a world class digital learning lab which will support interdisciplinary activities, including integration of augmented reality and other advanced technologies into teaching.

The strong focus on technology led by the School of Computing Technologies will drive the development of new capability platforms, support broad cross-discipline collaboration where computing disciplines can play key roles, and enable the ability for RMIT to be embedded within impactful industry-focused projects and leading local and international research organisations.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated distinction at the national level and an internationally recognised research track record;
  • Proven ability to sustain and grow Research Groups and Centres through the attraction of external funding;
  • Proven ability to attract and maintain industry partnerships and funding for impact-driven research;
  • Extensive experience in attracting and supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance;
  • A strong track record of innovative teaching in a discipline relevant to this School underpinned by a deep understanding of contemporary Learning and Teaching theory;
  • Knowledge and in-depth understanding of relevant industry and training priorities;
  • Experience of developing, and leading, successful international collaborations;
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives or external bodies, and to negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant computing discipline with knowledge and achievements that meet RMIT's Associate Professor or Professorial criteria
  • Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children Check
