THE are looking for a full time Tableau Dashboard Developer who wants to roll their sleeves up create analytic products via reports and dashboards for use by our customers.

This is a great opportunity to help drive our ambitious growth plans in creating commercial analytic products. You will be responsible for creating reports and dashboards in Tableau for our commercial products, ensuring that THE has a polished and usable suite of products for our customers. You will ensure that the reports and dashboards satisfy the product requirements, and offer suggestions and enhancements to improve the products. The datasets will be provided by our Data Scientists; you will be expected to feedback any quality issues and ideas to improve the data. You will also be liaising with our commercial and product teams, including demonstrating how products work. Additionally, there will be requirement to demonstrate products to our customers remotely.

You will work well in a dynamic working environment, and you will have the aptitude, attitude, and gravitas to make this role your own. There is a strong focus on learning on the job, you will be working alongside a data science team of 7 people with over 80 years of data science experience between them who will be there to assist you as needed. There is potential for growth in this role as we look to expand our product range; for instance there is plenty of scope to learn data science in this role.

We are currently working on a hybrid schedule; most members of the data team are on-site in our London office 1 day a week, with some members present more often.

Key role responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Understanding the dashboard/report that needs to be built, by liaising with internal teams across Data, Sales, and Product.
  • Working with the Data Scientists to ensure a data set specific to each dashboard/report is created, where the Data Scientists are responsible for producing the dataset
  • Creating high quality interactive dashboards and reports for use by our customers
  • Ensuring that the process for fulfilment of Tableau-based customer orders, and assigning users to the platform is well documented, and when needed carrying out that process
  • Being an internal champion for the use of Tableau
  • Helping other Tableau users with the tool and being the general go-to person for Tableau functionality
  • Garnering feedback on the use of dashboards and reports from both internal and external users
  • Agreeing updates for reports and dashboards
  • Running data quality checks to ensure the information displayed via Tableau is correct
  • Working closely with the World University Rankings consulting, editorial and THE product development teams to roll out these new analyses and features for new products and services.
  • Identifying and rolling out process improvements
  • Building knowledge of global higher education in general.

Education and Experience requirements

  • High proficiency in Tableau (including managing dashboard connections to databases) and demonstrable expertise in the development of professional Tableau reports and dashboards
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in querying and analysing data
  • Experience of using real-world data in dashboards and reports, and deriving insights from them
  • Good statistical skills (understanding of data distributions, normalization methods, impact of outliers...)
  • Knowledge of SQL an advantage
  • Understanding of data quality and quality assurance processes
  • Logical thinking and problem-solving ability, innovative at creating solutions
  • Process-driven with meticulous attention to detail and experience of designing and implementing best practice processes
  • Strong drive, self-motivated. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Working towards hard deadlines in a fast-moving environment
  • Knowledge of higher education an advantage
