Job Description

The AKC (Associateship of King’s College) is at the heart of King’s commitment to an international, interdisciplinary, and innovative curriculum. It is an academic programme that seeks to foster informed reflection on ethical, philosophical, political and religious questions, and to promote understanding of different beliefs and cultures that can be taken into wider society.   


The programme has expanded rapidly in recent years and more than 3000 members of the King’s community – undergraduates, postgraduates and staff, across all faculties and campuses as well as online – now follow the AKC every year.  We deliver two lecture series and a range of podcasts and AKC Conversations each academic year.  In recent years, AKC lecture series have focused on mental health, spirituality and the body, leadership, migration, and London's culture and history. 


As we move into the next phase of AKC development, our priorities are: 

•       To increase student engagement by enhancing the quality of online lectures and learning materials 

•       To enhance the prestige of the AKC, envisioned as a flagship King’s programme showcasing research 

•       To undertake public outreach and widening participation, including plans to make digital content available to schools and lifelong learning organisations. 

Reporting to the AKC Manager and working as part of a creative and supportive team, the postholder will help ensure an excellent experience for students, staff and alumni enrolled on the programme.   


In addition to supporting AKC student lifecycle processes, the postholder will have responsibility for managing AKC student ambassadors, supporting the AKC’s participation in university-wide events and leading on AKC publicity.  They will also work closely with the AKC TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) lead on the production and delivery of online programme material.

King’s currently operates a hybrid working policy for Professional Services members of staff which may be arranged with the agreement of your line manager.  

The postholder will normally need to be available to work from campus on Mondays during term time; other days and hours are negotiable. 


This post will be offered on an indefinite contract

This is a half-time post – 0.5 full time equivalent


Key responsibilities

  • Support student lifecycle processes for all aspects of the AKC programme, from pre-enrolment activities, through induction and registration to graduation and beyond  
  • Lead on publicity for the AKC programme, including social media and the AKC website 
  • Lead on the recruitment and line management of AKC Student Ambassadors 
  • Support the AKC’s participation in university-wide Welcome to King’s activities 
  • Support public events and widening participation initiatives developed by the AKC  
  • Work closely with the AKC TEL lead on the production of online lecture content 
  • Actively participate in the development and improvement of the AKC programme 
  • Actively contribute to a team culture of openness and accountability, proactively sharing skills and ideas and seeking feedback on new initiatives 
  • Work flexibly as part of a team, supporting others in times of high-volume activity

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1.       Excellent communication skills including excellent use of English both in formal documents and writing for online communications  

2.       Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and build good working relationships with academic and non-academic colleagues and students 

3.       An understanding of and desire to improve the student and staff experience 

4.       Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as delivering within a team    

5.       Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise own workload 

6.       Comfortable with adapting to change and committed to own professional development     

7.       Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to work with new systems   

8.       Experience of delivering events using different formats (e.g. in person, online)  

9.       Committed to the aims and ethos of the AKC 

10.   Committed to equality and diversity in the workplace   


Desirable criteria

1.       Experience of using student record systems (e.g. SITS) 

2.       Experience of using Social Media platforms, photo and video editing software (e.g. Photoshop, Camtasia) and web content management systems
