Job Description

Vision 2029, the organisation’s overarching strategic plan, articulates a clear and bold ambition for the future of digital provision across the College, supported by King’s Online. Specifically, it references an “ aim to be the UK leader in online and blended delivery by 2029”.

To ensure this objective of Vision 2029 is realised, King’s Online has embarked on an exciting and large-scale change programme to adjust many aspects of its operation. One of these is structural in nature, combining a number of areas of historically disparate activity within a single programme development function, the Studio.

The Head of Studio will have passion for and experience in the development of market-leading, high quality online, blended and hybrid learning products and programmes. They will lead a high-profile unit and have full oversight of and responsibility for the programme development process including media production; user experience; web development; content management; project management; and game production.

The postholder will be proficient in Agile Scrum methodology and practice. This is of particular importance as, following a successful trial pilot, this approach is being rolled out across all projects within King’s Online to deliver a number of business benefits including greater flexibility, communication and transparency within and across all projects, as well as a reduction in end-to-end production lead times and a significant increase in the department’s output.

The postholder will also have a relentless focus on the learner experience, utilising data-driven approaches to further refine and deliver the department’s product strategy and roadmap. They will therefore require a deep understanding of effective pedagogy and innovative learning methods to create a holistic approach to the development of digital programmes at King’s.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract,  This is a full-time  post - 100% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead a high-profile and high-performing Studio team, inclusive of user experience; web development; content management; project management; and game production.
  • Lead the further adoption and refinement of a new Agile Scrum methodology and practice, embedding this approach across all production projects within King’s Online.
  • Ensure other change initiatives, including but not limited to new systems implementation and physical office refurbishment, compliment and support the continued advancement of the Studio’s operation and output.
  • Oversee the development of online, blended and hybrid degree programmes, ensuring they are delivered on time, to agreed scope and within budget.
  • Promote a culture of data-driven, student-centric continuous improvement across the programme development process and within the Studio and broader King’s Online department.
  • Oversee resource planning, implementation and review across the programme development process.
  • Lead the ongoing development of an innovative and impactful product strategy and roadmap.
  • Develop and further integrate the game production capability of King’s Online, based in Cornwall, into the Studio team.
  • Be an ambassador for the promotion of quality, scalability, efficiency and excellence in all of King’s Online products, programmes and development processes.
  • Work closely with other members of King’s Online Senior Leadership Team to support the planning and delivery of King’s Vision 2029 ambition of being a leader in online and blended provision.
  • Actively participate in internal and external networks in order to promote King’s College London and King’s Online, as well as share best practice.
