The Cicely Saunders Institute is the first purpose-built institute for research into palliative care. The Institute benefits from a unique collaboration of multi-disciplinary palliative care and rehabilitation teams comprising academics, healthcare and social care practitioners, community organisations, patients and carers.  

Palliative care and rehabilitation put patients and their families at the heart of care. The post-holder will act as a research administrator to support patient and public involvement and engagement activities in research and studies in palliative care and rehabilitation, under the supervision of two senior academic staff, Professor Catherine Evans and Dr Matthew Maddocks. Current and forthcoming activities and projects will include: 

  • Working with the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Co-ordinator to widen our research involvement of under-represented groups, including people from ethnic minority groups and children and young people.  
  • Studies on research partnerships in palliative care focusing on integrating palliative care in primary care and rehabilitation for older adults with multiple conditions, including dementia and frailty  
  • Supporting research grants on the integration of palliative care in community and primary care for adults with multiple conditions
  • Supporting delivery of research grants on the integration of rehabilitation and palliative care for adults with incurable cancer. 


The post-holder will prepare agendas and minutes, publications (including reference lists), correspondence, transcriptions, financial folders for budget work, input data, project meetings, and arrange events, meetings and calendars. They will work to support the setup of research projects and delivery to time and within budget, and the dissemination of outputs to ensure that the widest possible audience is reached, with activities recorded and available on the internet and other electronic platforms.  They will assist with preparing written reports, publications and presentations for a variety of audiences, and help to promote and establish projects of national and international repute in standing with the calibre of King’s College London and the Cicely Saunders Institute.

The post-holder will undertake administrative duties for the two academic staff members including managing diaries, booking travel/accommodation, raising and processing purchase orders and expenses, as well as support general departmental activities. They will work closely with the Co-ordinator for public involvement and engagement, supporting the Steering Group and patients and carers involved in support research, including the Online Forum and delivery of the Institute’s strategy for public involvement.  They will work with project leads, senior administrators and project staff, including project managers, academics and research staff/students.  

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 24 months
