Quality Assurance & Academic Standards Manager (Medical School)

Employment type:  Fixed-term (to 31 July 2023)
Employment basis:  Full-time
Salary:  £40,927 - £50,296 per annum
Post number: ZZ007531

The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to work on the curriculum framework, academic standards, regulations and quality processes required to develop and regulate a graduate entry medical education (GEM) programme.  The Quality Assurance and Academic Standards Manager (Medical School) is a new full time (part time requests will be considered) position on a fixed term basis, until 31st July 2023, within the Department of Student & Academic Administration (DSAA) in the Quality Assurance, Academic Standards & Partnerships (QASP) Section.  Reporting to the Deputy Director and Head of Quality Assurance, Academic Standards & Partnerships the post holder will work closely with the Executive Lead of the Medical School Project, Executive Dean in the Faculty of Science and Health.  The role holder will be required to contribute to the preparation of documents for the GMC submissions and will also be required to write elements of the GMC submissions.

The role holder will work with the Medical School project team who are developing a graduate entry medical education (GEM) programme in conjunction with Brighton and Sussex Medical School initially with the aim of the University of Portsmouth setting up its own Medical School.  The intention of the Medical School will be to help address the health and wellbeing needs of the Portsmouth, East Hampshire and the Isle of Wight health and care systems.  The successful candidate will work with a committed and passionate team seeking to develop a medical school focussed on widening access to medical training, developing a future workforce that reflects diversity and needs of the communities they will serve, with a high degree of local student recruitment for local retention into critical regional workforce shortages.

The successful candidate will be experienced in developing and implementing effective quality assurance processes within a Higher Education setting, specifically in the delivery of academic standards.  The successful candidate will be self-motivated, able to hit the ground running, have significant experience of quality assurance and enhancement issues within a higher education or NHS environment and will have experience of working with professional and statutory regulatory bodies and other external agencies (such as Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education and the General Medical Council).  Prior experience of a GMC or GDC visit and knowledge of quality assurance in a Medical School would be extremely desirable (secondment requests will be considered).

Potential candidates may wish to discuss the role further with Rebecca Dipancrazio, email: rebecca.dipancrazio@port.ac.uk

The University of Portsmouth believes this role is eligible for sponsorship with UKVI under the Skilled Worker Route visa, and meets the minimum salary requirements to obtain the minimum points requirement.
