The Department and role purpose

Levelling Up:Aspire Higher is an online academic and pastoral support programme for Year 12 students who are considering studying Chemistry, Maths or Physics at university. Students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of online subject specific tutorials, mentoring, guest lectures and activities designed to prepare them for university study and to help make sure they are ready to apply for, and succeed, in Higher Education.

The programme coordinator will be based in the Department of Chemistry, but will work with colleagues across the Department of Maths, Chemistry, and Physics as well as central teams across the university.

The programme coordinator is a vital role for the Levelling Up: Aspire Higher programme. The role will include:

  • organising tutoring and mentoring timetables;
  • arranging and trouble-shooting online sessions using MS Teams and Zoom;
  • communicating with school student participants, mentors and tutors;
  • organising guest lectures;
  • developing external marketing materials including the programme website, brochures, social media and communication with schools;
  • supporting the programme team in managing, updating and developing programme materials e.g. safeguarding policies and training materials, tutorial and mentoring materials, data management plans;
  • supporting the recruitment process for new cohorts of school students, tutors and mentors;
  • keeping project finance documentation up to date;
  • keeping the programme team updated on the latest progress and making the team aware of any issues that need attention.
