Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant in the Office for Students (OfS), Dean’s Office, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

The Office for Students is set up to work alongside with our undergraduate medical students, to enhance their wellbeing, as well as to advance their overall professional development and growth in their journey to becoming tomorrow’s healthcare professionals. By providing support to the students in the areas of admissions and student affairs, the Office also aims to nurture the students and raise their self-awareness and relational competence, making them realise their potential as skilled, empathetic and collegial medical professionals – equipped to navigate the challenges of their eventual areas of practice.

Purpose of the Post and Main Duties

This Research Assistant will work with faculty and staff of the Office for Students (OfS) to track, analyse and interpret data collected relevant to the work of the OfS.

This would include data related to the school’s admissions exercise, student performance and student surveys tracked during medical school. The role will also include producing reports as well as decisions involving how best to collect and track on-going data.
The person will be the point person for the OfS to track interventions and outcomes relevant to UG medical student’s professional development and wellbeing. This would include assisting in the planning of projects (interventions) as well as monitoring and tracking outcomes of these interventions.

Duties

  • Generate new ideas
  • Being able to perform a literature search, assimilate and summaries key information, as well as identify knowledge gaps
  • Help conduct relevant studies and surveys (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Help submit ethics approval for studies that are being done
  • Manage large databases
  • Interpret and analyse data
  • Generate reports and present data to relevant stakeholders
  • Contribute to conference presentations and preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals

Qualifications

This Research Assistant should have problem-solving and investigative skills, as well as proficiency in multiple data collection and analysis techniques and have a good knowledge of statistical computer applications. He/she should be a good communicator and able to work effectively within teams. Content expertise in medical education would be an advantage.
Researcher skills include:

  • Bachelor or fresh Master’s graduate, with knowledge, skills and expertise in relevant field.
  • Proficiency in qualitative research
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools in quantitative research
  • Two or more years of research experience would be an advantage
  • Proven knowledge of data collection methods
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good presentation skills and ability to write research reports for publication in reputable journals
  • Knowledge of project management

Remuneration will commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Appointments will be made on a two-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointments when the current contract is due.
