The Board of Electors to the Professorship of Plant Ecology invite applications from people whose work falls within the general field of the Professorship, to take up appointment on 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department seeks to appoint a scientist of outstanding calibre to this Professorship. Our new colleague will provide leadership in plant ecology research and teaching in Cambridge, as well as nationally and internationally. This appointment arises at a vibrant time for the study of plant science in Cambridge, with over 35 research groups covering the breadth of the subject. In addition to colleagues in the Department of Plant Sciences, the University's Conservation Research Institute provides the opportunity to interact with conservation scientists from other University Departments and from nine conservation NGOs. Similarly, the Crop Science Centre, a joint venture with NIAB, is a conduit for the translation of fundamental scientific discovery into agricultural practices, including consideration of land use.

Candidates will be considered based on the following selection criteria:

  1. An outstanding research record of international status relevant to plant ecology.
  2. The scientific vision, experience, enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to shape the direction and emphasis of plant ecology research, teaching and impact in Cambridge.
  3. Commitment to provide academic leadership more generally in the Department and within the wider University, the UK and international plant science communities.
  4. An awareness of the importance of, and the willingness to promote, the recruitment and training of the next generation of plant ecologists.

Standard professorial duties include teaching and research, examining, supervision and administration.  The Professor will be based in Cambridge.  A competitive salary will be offered.
