Centre for English Language Education (CELE)

Since the development of the Nottingham-Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China.

With over 100 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world and is currently supporting more than 8000 students on its Preliminary Year, Pre-Sessional and Academic Literacy Development Centre programmes.

Throughout the academic year, the Centre is also actively involved in the delivery of teacher training and the teaching of bespoke courses in various aspects of English for Specific Purposes (ESP).

Preliminary Year Programme

The Preliminary Year Programme is offered to students in their first year of study at UNNC and represents 120 academic credits. The programme is currently a 50-50 split between modules focusing on specific academic subjects and modules focusing on the development of English Language skills. Successful completion of the Preliminary Year is a pre-requisite for progression to the second year of study.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for Preliminary Year modules in Mathematics. Experience in teaching and developing materials for modules in Mathematics (with Statistics component) and Computer Science at the Foundation level will be an advantage.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in Mathematics and Computer Science. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics or a closely related subject and relevant full time teaching experience.

Salary will be within the range RMB 331,602– RMB 451,939 per annum (pro rata for fractional post), depending on skills and qualifications, salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. An attractive package, including employment support allowance, first arrival support and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The posts are available from September 2021, initially to be offered on fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of three years. The contract may be extended by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
