Competitive Salary

Birmingham City University has a simple mission – we enable our students to transform their lives and to achieve their potential.

Through our education and research, and the roles our graduates go on to play in the world, we not only support individuals to transform their lives, but we also play a part in transforming society.

We are extremely proud of our city, of the part we have played in its past and in how we are a part of its ongoing renaissance. Just as for almost 180 years we have helped meet the demands of the economy and society around us, so too today we are a huge part of the changing face of Birmingham, the region, and the world.

The £340m we have recently invested in our city centre campuses shows how we are building on this civic heritage, not resting on it. We are determined to empower the next generation with the skills they need to flourish in a digital and ever-changing global environment.

Our passionate BCU community – including our talented and diverse staff and students – together with the demand we are seeing from those wanting to study with us, and our strong financial position, underpin why ours is a uniquely exciting university, where ambitious people can expect to thrive.

To help us accelerate into the years ahead, we are appointing eight leadership roles across the University’s four faculties including the new role of Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Art, Design and Media.

With over 5,500 students enrolled on courses in music, theatre, writing, media, digital technology, art, design, jewellery and architecture, the faculty is one of Britain’s leading providers of talented professionals to the cultural and creative industries. We are housed on a new campus with cutting-edge facilities and brilliant people; we are proud to be one of the most inclusive arts educational institutions in the world.

In this role, you will make a crucial contribution to the strategic and operational leadership of the faculty. Sitting on the executive team, you will work alongside the Dean, to build a culture of excellence and inclusivity. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead in a collaborative, supportive way, that builds teams and brings colleagues on board with your vision, whilst not shying away from the tough decisions. You will need the political skill to advocate for the faculty’s interests whilst also ensuring that they are in alignment with the university’s wider strategic agenda. Importantly, your student-centred approach means that every decision you make puts students at the heart of everything, giving them the best opportunities for future success.

Above all, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about BCU’s mission and our brand new I AM BCU values and are experienced in providing supportive leadership in a changing sector.
