Job Description

The Business Development Manager will help to develop the business model and oversee business operations for bGood as a strategic initiative in the NUS Department of Biomedical Engineering that develops and deploys student-led innovations for the ageing and disability community. The incumbent will captain the management and effectiveness of business operations, to push towards financial and operational objectives and thereby ensuring strategic goals are achieved.

The duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Drive development initiatives to establish and grow relationships with potential donors and supporters, and effectively communicate bGood’s narrative, products and plans for resource building to achieve bGood’s mission.
  • Develop a business model for longer-term sustainability of bGood and transitioning of bGood from an NUS initiative into a non-profit entity.
  • Conduct intellectual property review, identify and recommend possible licensing opportunities for relevant innovations from bGood.
  • Strategize, execute and drive business directives and growth strategies, including anticipating community stakeholder requirements, determining pricing model and developing and implementing marketing strategy for bGood’s products.
  • Uncover areas for improvement and evaluating progress/performance of business operations; this includes setting clear targets, financial planning and risk management.
  • Interface with community agencies to widen the community network of bGood in the ageing and disability space for bGood’s products testbedding and eventual deployment in the community based on the developed pricing model.
  • Provide timely reporting to bGood’s management committee and peer advisors.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • At least 10 years of business development, sales, customer account management, partner management and new programme/initiative management.
  • Possess ability to develop and implement business development strategies and programmes to achieve targets set for community and sponsors engagements.
  • Possess good negotiation, communication, analytical, interpersonal and presentation skills in a group and individual setting with strong ability to develop relationships, establish networks, and influence stakeholders and work partners.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Collaborative, supportive, calm under pressure, solution-focused to ensure maximum performance and engagement.
  • Possess passion and commitment towards improving the lives of older adults and persons with disability.
  • Interest and exposure to design and technology fields will be advantageous.
  • Experience in community service would be advantageous.
  • The incumbent will be offered an initial 1 year contract. Any extension would be subject to approval and grant availability.
