Are you are motivated Researcher looking to work on an experimental and numerical study of a lab-scale fire with solid fuels and water mist extinguishment?

This research is part of the project funded by ARC fire research center www.fire.edu.au and the successful candidate will finalise building the lab-scale chamber that has be partially built and then conduct the experiments of the solid fires and water mist extinguishment in the chamber. This experimental data will be used for validation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model results. The open source CFD code, FDS and the commercial CFD code, ANSYS CFX/ANSYS FLUENT will be applied for the CFD simulations.

To be successful you will need:

  • Phd (or thesis submitted) in Mechanical engineering/chemical engineering is preferred
  • Strong skills in developing lab-scale experimental rigs for reactions/heat transfer and conducting experimental measurements of temperature and species concentration
  • Experience in CFD modelling of fires/reactions/heat transfer using FDS/CFX/FLUENT is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to implement required HSE policies and procedures in the University of Adelaide.

Good interpersonal and communication skills are required, with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders.
