UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow
Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within Spatial Dynamics Lab
European cities face complex challenges like aging infrastructure, resource constraints, and rising inequalities every day. These challenges are only predicted to continue to confront the future of cities in the coming decades. By 2050, up to 70 % of the world's population will be living in urban regions. The World Urbanization Prospects of the United Nations have estimated a further urbanisation in Europe will result in 80% urban residents by 2040 and 85% by 2050. Europe faces interrelated social, health-related, environmental and economic challenges of urbanisation. A global framework like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can guide the development of solutions to address these connected challenges of urbanisation. ACTIVATE will enable the achievement of SDGs by drawing on a transdisciplinary body of AI-augmented knowledge beyond citizen science, nature-based solutions (NBS) and ecosystem services to counterbalance the increase of the impact of projected urbanization.
The project will develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI, XAI) and data science enhanced decision support tools to leverage data from low cost sensors and other data sources to support decision making. This is an advanced research focused role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching. In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:
- Analysing and comparing data sets from multiple sensors and sources for known data quality issues.
- Leverage data sets from multiple sensors and sources to develop decision support tools.
