Job description

The School of Nursing & Midwifery at Queen’s University Belfast is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Lecturer (Teaching & Research) AC2/AC3 in Midwifery. In the event we do not recruit for this post we will consider applications for Lecturer (Education) AC2/AC3 in Midwifery. (Please note AC2 grade is a Lecturer at start of Career).

The AC2 and AC3 (Teaching and Research) Lecturer posts will undertake research in line with the School’s research strategy, to teach Midwifery at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to contribute to School administration/outreach activity.

The AC2 and AC3 Lecturer (Education) posts will undertake teaching in the area of Midwifery at undergraduate and postgraduate level, will develop or maintain a portfolio of appropriate scholarly activity and contribute to the School’s academic development and quality assurance processes. The AC3 Lecturer will also develop innovations in teaching, learning and quality assurance processes and contribute to School administration and outreach activity.

The successful candidate must have, and your CV/Cover letter (or application form) should clearly demonstrate you have:

Lecturer (Teaching & Research)

  • Doctoral degree in Midwifery or related healthcare subject.
  • Current registration status with the Nursing & Midwifery Council as a Registered Midwife or possession of the qualifications required for such registration.
  • Research experience and profile which complements the research priorities and strengths of the School with:
    -        A minimum of 3 years research experience in a relevant field
    -        A publication record (or be about to publish) in peer reviewed journals /conference papers
    -        Experience of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques (AC3 only)
    -        Experience of presentations at national and international meetings and conferences (AC3 only).
  • Relevant teaching experience at University level commensurate with stage of career.
  • Relevant academic administrative/management experience commensurate with stage of career.

Lecturer (Education)

  • Primary degree in Midwifery or a related subject. (AC2 and AC3 criteria).
  • Higher degree or about to obtain (Masters or equivalent in Midwifery or a related subject area). (AC2 and AC3 criteria).
  • Current registration status with the Nursing & Midwifery Council as a Registered Midwifery or possession of the qualifications required for such registration. (AC2 and AC3 criteria).
  • Evidence of ability to publish (or be about to publish) commensurate with stage of career (AC2 and AC3 criteria).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development. (AC2 and AC3 criteria).
  • Evidence of scholarly activity e.g. conference paper presentations, external funding secured, book reviews published, writing practice manuals, publication of professional materials. (AC3 criteria only).
  • Experience of lecturing or teaching, commensurate with stage of career (AC2 and AC3 criteria).
  • Experience of student mentorship / or pastoral tutor. (AC2/3) criteria).
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in Midwifery (AC 2 & 3 criteria).
  • Experience of contribution to broader management and administrative processes. (AC2 and AC3 criteria).
  • Relevant academic administrative/management experience (AC3 criteria only).
  • Relevant leadership experience in clinical/academic role. (AC3 criteria only).
