About the Role:

La Trobe University invites applications for the position of University Librarian. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), the University Librarian is responsible for supporting students, staff and communities through learning and knowledge creation and providing integrated scholarly collections, relevant and responsive information services, and academic support programs.

The University Librarian will play a major role in contributing to the University’s 2030 strategy, championing leading practice in the delivery of high-quality, client-focused services and programs to ensure the achievement of the University’s learning, teaching and research objectives.

The role will oversee the financial management of the University libraries, including the preparation and monitoring of annual library budgets.

Demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence and outstanding service and possessing a vision for excellence in meeting the future needs of the University is essential, as is a vision for respecting and advancing the role of information technology in collaboration with senior leaders within and across portfolios.

Skills and Knowledge

The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership and management experience, a strong understanding of the academic context, high-level experience in the employment of technology in a library environment and excellent communication, negotiation, and collaborative skills.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive contribution to the broader academic life of the University and build strategic collaborations with the various elements of the Australian and international library community.

The ability to lead and direct the management of all library staff, capacity to develop effective procedures, strategies and work programs to provide the required outcomes to support the University's objectives is essential.

The University’s Health and Safety Procedure – COVID-19 Vaccination and Other Measures, requires staff engaged to perform work onsite at La Trobe University to be Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they are exempt from being vaccinated due to a recognised medical contraindication. This position will require the incumbent to work onsite. As such, an offer of employment will be conditional upon the applicant being Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 or medically exempt from receiving a COVID-19 vaccination and providing satisfactory evidence of their vaccination or exemption status to the University.
