Imagine working in an environment where your contribution is so far reaching that you will be changing the world - this is your reality - if you choose.

As a Technician in our Mechanical Workshop, you will be working alongside leaders in their discipline and will support world class education and research. You will be responsible for aiding staff and students in the manufacture of bespoke components and equipment for experimental and research purposes that will be used in all environments from beneath the oceans, cleanrooms, high voltage labs to outer space and everything in between.

To be successful, you will be an experienced machinist with a skill level equivalent to the achievement of  NVQ Level 3/City and Guilds in Mechanical Engineering.  You will be able to use your skills and experience to manufacture complex and high precision work, machining components from specialist materials using a range of conventional machine tools such as Centre Lathes and Vertical Mills. You will also possess excellent hand skills along with experienced in working to tight tolerances and independently producing one-off components to engineering drawings.

You will also be a confident communicator able to explain technical issues to those less experienced and where English may be their second language. Pitching in to solve unique experimental manufacture and design solutions will be second nature and you will always be looking to deliver effective results in the most efficient way; enhancing your customers' experience. You will have excellent time management skills to be able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.

In return we will offer you career development and opportunities to enhance your skills, friendly and supportive work environment which provides work-life balance.  Along with contributory pension scheme; 20 days annual l eave rising to 24 after 4 years plus 8 bank holidays and 6 additional holidays (closure days); subsidised health and fitness facilities on-site; cycle to work scheme; a range of discounts which includes restaurants, retail outlets and entertainment.

You will join a small inclusive team that embraces diversity and the benefits this brings. In support of this due consideration will be given to those who have had career breaks for reasons including maternity, paternity or adoption leave, disability or illness.
