Role Description The Centre for Electronic Warfare, Information and Cyber (EWIC) at Cranfield University is based at the Cranfield Defence and Security Campus, co-located at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham. EWIC champions specialist research into security, information systems, complex adaptive systems and decisional support/optimisation by examining the interactions between people, organisations, technology and systems. Research expertise ranges from computer science, information and capability management, to cognitive, psychology and management science. As an exclusively postgraduate environment, working in conjunction with Industry and Defence partners, Cranfield shapes, adds breadth, and questions traditional approaches with the aim of influencing practice and policy and delivering a real-world impact.

The Information and Decision Management Group sits within the Centre for Electronic Warfare, Information & Cyber. Our teaching activities focuses on Systems Thinking Practice. Teaching takes place at both our Shrivenham and Cranfield campuses, as well as bespoke delivery on client sites. Our research focus is in: Public Health; alignment of human capability to organisational demands and responsibilities (socio-technical systems and systems leadership); Trustworthy AI and Autonomous Systems in decision-making and governance; and adaptable information systems in support of agile organisations.

About the Role

In this role you will have a significant impact on the shape and future direction of our high-quality teaching, research and consultancy at postgraduate level, especially with regard to Systems Leadership and the enabling of Learning Organisations.  You will provide module leadership and delivery of MSc and Continuing Professional Development Short Courses (including curriculum development, teaching, coaching, mentoring, setting and marking coursework).  You will supervise PhD and MSc research including acting as internal and external examiners.

Additionally, at the Senior Lecturer level, you will be expected to provide leadership, such as course management, business development, preparing large funding bids, acting as a Principal Investigator on large-funded research projects and managing collaborative networks of researchers linked with industry.

About You

You will have a PhD (or nearing completion) in an appropriate field such as Systems Thinking, Leadership and Management, or Systems/Organisational Psychology.  You will have appropriate knowledge to provide a research and teaching specialism that aligns the leadership and governance aspects of organisational systems, including systems methods, artificial intelligence and decision-making.

Key responsibilities for Lecturer include:

  • Working with the systems and leadership aspects of organisational governance, leadership and management 
  • Publishing and presenting research to others
  • Contributing to course development, module design and teaching at Masters Level
  • Qualitative and quantitative research methods and experimental/ statistical methods and their application

Additionally for a Senior Lecturer:

  • Masters or undergraduate course director
  • Extensive professional experience with a substantial reputation in your research field
  • Substantial contributions in research, teaching and leadership and management
