Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences (Ref.: 515063), to commence on November 1, 2022 for three years, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in genetics or developmental neurobiology or relevant fields.  They should have a strong background in using model organisms to study the genetic basis of neuronal differentiation and synaptic formation; a good publication record in relevant field is also required.  Research experience with the nematode C. elegans are highly desirable.  Having skills in transgenesis, gene editing, and neuronal imaging is a strong advantage.  They should also be able to conduct research independently, and have a great trouble-shooting and effective collaboration skills. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are required.

The appointee is expected to carry out investigations in the field of developmental neurobiology using C. elegans as a model system and apply various genetics, cell biology, optogenetics, and Calcium imaging techniques to study the mechanism of neuronal differentiation and circuit assembly.  Potential projects include (a) studying mechanisms that instruct the formation of electrical synapses in neural circuits; (b) investigating the mechanisms that regulate cell fate decisions and neuronal morphogenesis; (c) using chemical proteomics approach to understand protein homeostasis during neuronal development and aging.  Some background information about the research in our lab can be found at:

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

The University only accepts online application for the above posts.  Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V., contact information of two references, and a brief statement of research interests to Dr. Chaogu Zheng at  Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue until September 1, 2022, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier
