Applications are invited for a Permanent post of an Archivist within UCD Library The mission of UCD Library is to be a leader in enriching the student experience, to empower global engagement, and to act as an intellectual centre for the UCD community. UCD Library consists of five libraries, UCD Archives and the National Folklore Collection. UCD Library provides library and information services to UCD staff and students. UCD Archives, UCD Special Collections and the National Folklore Collection at UCD house collections of national importance for use by the UCD community and external researchers. Since its establishment in 1971, UCD Archives has specialised in the acquisition of private paper collections associated with the history and development of the modern Irish state. It now preserves the papers of a great many Irish public figures including diplomats, senior civil servants, members of government and the judiciary, presidents and EU commissioners. It holds many of the most significant private paper collections concerning the Irish revolutionary period, Irish Republican women, the transition to democracy, and the foundation of the state. It also acquires the records of significant organisations such as political parties, trades unions, NGOs, professional and cultural associations and sporting bodies. These collections constitute an essential resource for research into Irish history, politics and culture from the twentieth century onwards. Responsibility for university and university-related archives was formalised with the establishment of a University Archives Service in 1997. A unique relationship with the Order of Friars Minor resulted in the signing of the UCD-OFM Partnership Agreement. This saw the transfer of non-Franciscan private paper collections from the Franciscan Library Killiney to UCD Archives in 1997 (including the papers of Eamon de Valera, George Gavan Duffy and Sean MacEoin). The transfer of the manuscript collections from Killiney followed (including the renowned collection of Irish-language manuscripts designated `A' Manuscripts). UCD Archives runs a very busy reading room and maintains an increasingly important outreach programme, including offering documents classes to second and third level students, creating and contributing to exhibitions and running active social media accounts. It pursues an active acquisitions policy in seeking to preserve the papers and archives of contemporary public figures and organisations and works in close collaboration with UCD Special Collections, the National Folklore Collection and UCD Digital Library. 95 Archivist II 2010 Salary Scale: €39.045 - €55,561 per annum Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines. Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 2nd June 2022 Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system.
