Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant to join an ongoing research project that studies the molecular interactions between Enterovirus 71 and its mammalian host, with the ultimate aim to identify novel treatment options. The RA will work with an existing team of 3 lab members.

The Alonso’s lab consists of 14 members (RFs, RAs, PhD and Masters Students, lab technicians) working on various projects revolving around host-pathogen interactions in HFMD, influenza, COVID19 and dengue. The lab is part of the Immunology programme at the NUS Life Sciences Institute (https://www.lsi.nus.edu.sg/corp/). The lab and Immunology programme are fully equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, machines and core facilities.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with the other study team members and will provide technical assistance to the project. This includes performing experiments at the bench, and contributing to the lab rostered duties. Experiments include in vitro cell biology and virology assays, in vitro drug efficacy testing, basic biochemistry (Western blot, immunoprecipitation) and molecular biology (PCR, qPCR) assays, and animal (mouse) work (infection experiments).

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  • Have a Bachelor degree in Life Sciences (biomedical sciences preferred)
  • Have minimum 1-year experience in a research lab
  • Have expertise in mouse work (optional but it would be a plus)
  • Be hardworking, dedicated, tidy and well-organized
  • Be a team player and open-minded.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Appointment will be made on a one-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for at least one more year. The position is available immediately.
