This is a fantastic opportunity for a Research Fellow wanting a lifestyle change and access to some of Victoria’s stunning scenery, located in the heart of Hamilton in Rural Victoria.

The National Centre for Farmer Health is an innovative hub for research, service delivery and education furthering the health, wellbeing and safety of farmers, farm workers, farming families and farming communities. The Centre is a partnership between Western District Health Service and Deakin University (established in 2008) and is based in Hamilton, Victoria.

The vision of the National Centre for Farmer Health is ‘Making a difference to farmers’ lives. The NCFH achieves this through inspiring quality education, research and service delivery through innovative partnerships that advance agrihealth locally and globally

The Research Fellow works within a multidisciplinary team including professionals from the health, agricultural, social sciences and information technology disciplines who have a proven capacity to deliver in the areas of education training, applied research and community engagement

Key responsibilities:

  • Initiate, design, conduct and may lead productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs 
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to organise and plan, in order to meet rigid and conflicting demands and deadlines, along with the ability to adapt to changed priorities within set time frames. 
  • Engage collaboratively to develop novel and high-quality research or creative activities 
  • Initiate, design, conduct and may lead in development of industry partnerships and collaboration to enable major breakthroughs, innovative solutions for future translation into real world impact 
  • Support and may lead in applications for external competitive and other funding, and demonstrates sustained efforts 
  • Initiate, design, conduct and may lead innovation and translation into policies, frameworks, strategy, priority setting and other outcomes to create positive impact 
  • Assist the implementation of local citizenship activities and contribute to effectiveness as influencer 
  • Contribute to the implementation of specific aspects of University’s and NCFH’s strategic agenda 
  • Assist the implementation of community engagement activities

To be successful you will have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. mental health, rural health, public health, agriculture) and/or other relevant qualifications and experience 
  • Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or demonstrated translational research outcomes 
  • Success in obtaining external research funding 
  • Ability to contribute to and engage with communities through research 
  • Capacity to contribute to leadership of research, administration and organisational and project management skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team with limited supervision 
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of aboriginal and torres strait islander cultures and contemporary issues 
  • Ideally knowledge and understanding of life and work in a rural farming community.
