The Asia Research Institute (ARI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) seeks to appoint a research leader in the field of Arabia Asia Studies. The successful candidate will lead development of an ambitious scholarly programme of humanities/social science research on historical interconnections between the Arabian Peninsula and Asia. The professorship title will be for an initial period of up to three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further three years.
ARI is established as one of the world’s foremost centres of humanities and social science research on Asia. The Institute’s research agenda is built primarily around six interdisciplinary clusters: Asian Migration, Asian Urbanisms, Identities, Inter-Asia Engagements, Religion and Globalisation, and Science, Technology and Society. The advertised position is for an established scholar to be appointed as part of the Inter-Asia Engagements (IAE) cluster [https://ari.nus.edu.sg/clusters/inter-asia-engagements]. Based full time in Singapore, s/he would also be expected to contribute to the wider intellectual life of the Institute, as well as to engage scholars elsewhere across the NUS campuses, and internationally.

The position will also include start-up research funding, the value of which will be commensurate with experience and the level of appointment.
The overall scope and responsibilities of the position include:
- Playing a leadership role at ARI through building a programme of research on historical or contemporary connections between the Arabian Peninsula and Asia.
- Mentorship of early career researchers at ARI.
- Applying for external research funding, either in Singapore or internationally.
- Performing administrative/service duties commensurate with the level of appointment.
- Interested candidates must have a PhD in History or an allied field.
