About the Faculty of Business and Economics

The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne has been preparing students for exciting and challenging careers in industry since 1924. The Department of Management and Marketing has more than seventy full-time equivalent academic staff in continuing positions and forty PhD students, all supported by seven full-time equivalent professional staff members. Currently, the Department has several thousand student enrolments in 129 subjects.

The Department places a high value on teaching quality. Its objective is to offer excellent teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. This is achieved by offering subjects that meet the job-ready requirements of employees, are up-to-date with developments in the disciplines of management and marketing, and are delivered using innovative teaching methods. This includes pedagogies that support online, blended and flipped classes.

About the Role

Teaching Specialists work alongside the Department’s academic staff to provide subject coordination and deliver lectures, workshops or tutorials in Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Management and Master of International Business programs or other Department of Management and Marketing offerings. Teaching Specialists are responsible for administration and marking for their assigned deliveries and may also contribute to curriculum and assessment development, results moderation activities, and provide leadership within the teaching team.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Engage in instructional design and learning innovation to design and deliver high quality student-centred learning experiences 
  • Prepare and deliver assigned lectures, workshops or tutorials
  • Manage online assignment submission, mark and provide feedback on student assignments
  • Provide student consultations and manage student correspondence

About You

You will have:

  • A doctoral level qualification in a Management or Marketing discipline and/or equivalent relevant academic or professional or practice-based experience and expertise
  • Recent, relevant tertiary level teaching experience demonstrating capacity to teach effectively at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels
  • A scholarly approach to teaching and learning, including experience in analysing and addressing student learning needs and familiarity with teaching and learning scholarship
  • An ability to manage teaching related administrative tasks efficiently and accurately, including demonstrated capacity to manage subject websites and relevant teaching technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work collaboratively and collegially with academic and professional staff colleagues
  • An ability to develop relationships and work effectively with business, industry and/or professional associations
