SOAS UNIVERSITY OF LONDON

HEADS OF COLLEGE

SOAS University of London, is the leading higher education institution in Europe specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our mission is to generate knowledge and understanding to address the global challenges of our time - from grappling with issues such as peace and security, climate change, migration and human rights to the arts, heritage and languages. Our knowledge and expertise positions us to play a leading role in reimagining higher education globally, ensuring marginalised communities are heard and contributing towards building a more equitable world. To enable delivery of the strategic plan, a new structure of three multidisciplinary Colleges has been developed to enhance collaborative working and innovation, and to strengthen consistency across the institution.

A new Head of College is sought for each grouping to provide oversight and direction and realise opportunities for development.

One College will consist of East Asian Languages and Cultures; History, Religions & Philosophies; Languages, Cultures and Linguistics; Arts.  The second will bring together Development Studies; Economics; Finance and Management and the third, Anthropology & Sociology; Law (with Gender and Media); Politics and International Studies.

The Heads of College will be full members of the senior management team, reporting to the Deputy Director & Provost).  They will provide academic leadership to drive performance for their College, encouraging innovation and creativity across research and teaching.  The appointees will work with their colleagues in each college to finalise a college name for the grouping.

Ideal candidates will have leadership and management experience in relevant disciplinary areas and will have strong research credentials in their own right.  A commitment to innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to high quality research and programme development will be key.  Support, development and guidance of other staff are key components of this role along with strong academic leadership and the capacity to make a direct contribution to research, teaching and leadership within the programmes of the College.
