Working alongside an existing ISAR Project Technician and reporting to the Technical Manager, the post holder will provide support to the ISAR project by developing, constructing, testing and calibrating ISAR instruments. This post is based at the Waterfront Campus, National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS). In addition a small proportion of time will be allocated to assisting with deploying instruments in various locations including aboard ships of opportunity.

The post holder will be resourceful in the delivery of support and have good communication skills. They must have well developed analytical and problem-solving skills in the field of electronics/instrumentation, with good computing and basic mechanical skills.

You will have an HND, or equivalent, in Electronic or Instrument Engineering, or related subject, with proven work experience acquired in a relevant technical support role. and be able to show development throughout your career. Experience of firmware development is desirable.

This is initially a three-year fixed term position, likely to become permanent in future.

ISAR is an Infrared Sea-surface-temperature Autonomous Radiometer developed at the School of Ocean & Earth Science. The instruments are primarily used for validation of satellite sea surface temperature data. More information can be found at www.isar.org.uk
