About the Department of Rural Health

The Department of Rural Health is a department within the Melbourne Medical School at the University of Melbourne. The Department is based in Shepparton, Ballarat, Bendigo (in partnership with Monash University and La Trobe University) and Wangaratta and has associations with more than 40 smaller rural towns in Victoria. The key purpose of the Department is to provide professional health education and research training in a rural context with an aim to increase the rural health workforce.

About the Role

The role of Senior Lecturer in Women’s Health (Wangaratta) is an important role supporting the learning of medical students in Wangaratta in their Women’s Health rotation of the University of Melbourne MD course.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Be responsible for Clinical women’s health teaching of Rural Clinical School students which includes the preparation and delivery of small group tutorials, demonstrations, clinical sessions and other modes of teaching.
  • Contribute to and be involved in Rural Clinical School clinical educator meetings.
  • Assist with the organisation and supervision of student placements in the women’s health department and communication with the clinical team. 
  • Where appropriate, supervise medical student research projects as part of their MD Research Skills training.

About You

You are capable of developing good working relationships with all levels of medical practitioners, and other health professionals, in hospitals and the community. Your highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team will contribute to your success in the role.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • A medical qualification recognisable in Australia and Fellowship of an Australian College (e.g. RANZCOG) or an equivalent and recognised postgraduate clinical qualification.
  • A commitment to furthering the role of the University within the Rural Clinical School.
  • An understanding of the needs of students. Ability and willingness to counsel students as required.
  • Familiarity with the functioning of the regional hospitals and the University at all levels.
  • A commitment to appropriate maintenance of medical education skills.
