Role Profile

We are seeking an Equality and Diversity Administrator to join our Science department and support the Director of Science with the Science Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy. The EDI Administrator will act as the Directorates administrative contact for EDI in the workplace and provide support for ZSL Ethics Committees and IoZ’s Independent Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To develop and maintain a climate of inclusion, equality, and respect in the Science Directorate.
  • To act as the IOZ administrative point of contact for ZSL Ethics Committees and ISAB
  • To be the safeguarding champion for ZSL’s Science Directorate.
  • To develop proposals for improving diversity and inclusion strategies that are followed in the Science Directorate.
  • To regularly communicate about EDI-related topics, issues and events to Science’s staff and students, through targeted emails and monthly Newsletters.
  • To organize and conduct regular EDI events.
  • To support individual and collaborative Equality and Diversity projects
  • To collect and compile relevant data to support the tracking of Science’s EDI Key Performance Indicators.
  • To revise and update communication on relevant website pages, social media pages and internal documents to ensure non-discriminatory language is being used
  • To develop and maintain relevant internal and external collaborations
  • To administer and manage records of all ZSL research projects requiring ethical approval and Home Office licenses
  • Organising and attending the ZSL Ethics Committee for Animal Research (ECAR) meetings and ZSL Animal Welfare Ethical Review Body (AWERB) meetings, and provide reports on all submissions.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of working as an EDI specialist in a large and complex organisation
  • Up to date knowledge of good practice approaches in inclusion and diversity in the higher education sector
  • Evidence of successful ‘internal consultancy’ with a range of different groups including professional staff
  • Experience in building relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Experience of academic institutions
  • Some experience in database management

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills: ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people, including; effective report writing, presentation, training and facilitation skills
  • Good quantitative skills: undertake collection and analysis of data
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills 
  • Influencing skills
  • Conflict-resolution skills
