SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe. The Rural Economy, Environment and Society (REES) Department is one of the largest groups of economists and social scientists working in the rural, agricultural and land based sectors in the UK.

The Rural Economy, Environment and Society Department (REES) at SRUC is one of the largest groupings of socio-economists in the UK. Current policy demands challenges mean that the importance of applied economics and evidence-led research has never been greater. We are looking for an economist with experience of agricultural policy and application of frameworks to support our work on rural and agricultural sectors.  The successful candidates would support current work for a variety of funders, applying quantitative methodologies to both primary and secondary data and would engage in the development policy reports and academic papers. Specific studies include cost-benefit analyses, support payment adjustment scenarios and reviews of interventions around climate change, animal health and land use management.

The successful candidates would join a growing team of economists working on interventions and future pathways for replacement agricultural policy in Scotland.  The post holder will work with experienced agricultural economists to support current work but also to identify analytical pathways for future research.  This work will inform Scottish Government to improve understanding of the potential agricultural sector impacts arising from policy scenarios.  In addition, the post-holders would also be expected to support teaching in economic and rural business subjects. 

You will have a doctoral degree in a subject related to economics with a background in applied economic analysis towards agricultural and climate change issues.  Experience of post-doctoral research will be desirable as well as the publication of academic papers in recognised journals.  Evidence of writing for a range of audiences would also be desirable.
