Research Assistant at the Waterpower Lab
About the position
At the Department of Energy and Process Engineering we have a vacancy for a position as a research assistant (100 % full time) with start date 1st of August 2022.
The Department is doing education and research within the entire energy filed and has for the time being approximately 50 permanent scientific staff and 100 PhD students. There are 15 administrative staff members and 20 technical staff members. The Department has experienced significant growth in the last years. The focus on external projects is high, and the project portfolio is big. We are doing research on the entire value chain of energies, from energy source to end-users. The Department has a good work environment, and all employees are responsible for maintaining and contributing to this.
Duties of the position
- Responsibilities for training of project and master students in operating the test rigs in the Waterpower laboratory.
- Responsibilities in assisting laboratory experiments and training exercises in the courses TEP 4195 Turbomachinery, TEP 4200 Construction, operation and maintenance of hydraulic machinery and TEP 4175 Design of a Wind turbine.
- Correcting of exam papers in Fluid mechanics and Thermodynamics.
- Supervision during training exercises in TEP 4100/TEP 4110 Fluid mechanics.
In addition, the applicant must be prepared to join in two excursions, one in Norway and one abroad. Changes to the duties of the position is to be expected, depending on what is needed by the Department.
Required selection criteria
- Master level education for a study programme in Mechanical Engineering, Energy and Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.
- Recent graduate or in the first stages of the career.
- Good English skills, both written and oral.
The position as Research Assistant should give you the opportunity to gain insight into scientific or artistic work and method. The assignments are at an academic level and must consist of scientific or artistic assistance.
The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

- Experience from NTNU in general and The Department of Energy and Process Engineering and Waterpower laboratory in particular.

Salary and conditions
Research assistants are remunerated in code 1020 depending on competence, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 407 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority.
The position runs for a a period of two years.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
