Job Description

The Duke-NUS Cancer and Stem Cell Biology (CSCB) Programme studies the causes and treatments of cancer and related diseases. The CSCB research groups have diverse programmes in both basic cancer biology and clinical-translational studies, with a special emphasis on cancers that affect the Asian community in general.

We are seeking for a Scientific Research Assistant to help us establish an organoid bank. The successful candidate will learn and work on organoid culture, manage the organoid bank, assist with experiments, maintain databases, perform simple data analysis and assigned laboratory duties.

  • Provide technical support to Research Fellows and support research activities within the overall scope of the research project.
  • Assist Research Fellows to establish and manage the organoid bank.
  • Prepare reagents and perform culturing (including freezing and thawing) and quality control of cell lines and organoids.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments (e.g. Western Blot, qPCR, RNA/DNA Extraction, Formalin fixation and ethanol replacement for histological analyses, microscopy work and Immunofluorescence staining).
  • Perform organoid-based assays/experiments (e.g. growth assays, drug sensitivity and drug treatment assays etc).
  • Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and research findings.
  • Assist with general upkeep of laboratory needs, procurement of reagent, maintain safety protocols, provide technical support and establish work procedures to ongoing research projects.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Science or related field with at least 1 year of relevant research experience or laboratory training in basic molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. Cell culture, Western Blot, qPCR, RNA/DNA Extraction, Formalin fixation and ethanol replacement and Immunofluorescence staining). Applicants with higher credentials may be considered for more senior appointment.
  • Experience with three-dimensional mammalian cell culture or handling human primary clinical samples will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience in the next generation sequencing technologies (e.g Whole Genome Sequencing and Whole Transcriptome Sequencing) will be advantageous.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communications skills with excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.
  • Able to work independently, multi-task, and work collaboratively in a cross-disciplinary research environment. Open to last-minute changes and variations.
  • Able to work after office hours and on weekends (if needed).
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated.
