Job Description
The NUS Environmental Research Institute at the National University of Singapore is looking for a Research Assistant to study carbon cycling and hydrological dynamics as part of a project that seeks to understand the mechanisms of peat decomposition and peat revegetation in Southeast Asia. The position is within a multi-disciplinary research team comprising terrestrial and aquatic biogeochemists, hydrologists, botanists, microbiologists and artificial intelligence experts.
Specifically, we seek motivated applicants with (1) fieldwork experience (ideally involving wetlands), (2) knowledge of GHGs, C isotopes, soil biogeochemistry & hydrology, and (3) experience in statistical programming and geographic information systems (GIS). The successful candidate will work closely with Research Fellows and Principal Investigators and will be expected to be involved in overseas field data collection, laboratory work, data analysis, and writing of scientific publications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the Geographical, Earth, Environmental or Biological Sciences or a related discipline
- Prior experience in fieldwork, laboratory work, statistical programming / quantitative data analysis and GIS
- Ability to think logically and solve problems creatively
- Self-driven, highly motivated, collaborative, and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Willingness to acquire new skills and take initiatives
- Experience in project management (not required but desirable)
