About the Position

The QUT School of Teacher Education and Leadership is seeking a Lecturer (Level B)/Senior Lecturer (Level C) who will provide strategic capacity in research, engagement, and in learning and teaching within the School.

The successful candidate will have: strong understanding of curriculum, disciplinary content, and assessment processes regarding mathematics and technologies; skills and processes for teaching the related curriculum content, assessment strategies, and pedagogies, in initial teacher education courses. They will focus their teaching on providing high-quality learning experiences for pre-service teachers, with particular focus on pre- service secondary Mathematics teachers and Technologies teachers.

This position reports to the Head of School for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking educational research including publication in high quality peer reviewed journals and collaborating in the submission of applications for research grants and fellowships.
  • Supervision of higher degree research students.
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate units of study related to secondary Mathematics and Technologies teacher education, as well as developing and promoting innovative teaching methods and materials.
  • Actively participating in unit and curriculum review and design, continuously improving quality of learning experiences for students.
  • Effectively engaging with schools and/or professional associations at local, state and national levels.
  • Engaging with opportunities for commercial research and/or other funded activity including short courses and international aid projects.
  • Implementing and administering University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.

To ensure job flexibility the successful appointee may be required to:

  • perform any other duties as nominated by the University consistent with the relevant classification descriptors detailed in the Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking any new duties will receive training;
  • participate in job rotation or multiskilling in consultation with their supervisor;
  • work across campuses

To be appointed as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer the successful applicant must meet the position classification standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff).

The successful candidate may be appointed at Lecturer, Level B or Senior Lecturer Level C depending on their level of attainment against the position classification standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff). The position classification standards provide the basis to differentiate between the various levels of appointment and define the broad relationships between classifications. The University reserves the right to appoint at either classification level.

Selection Criteria

  1. Completion of a doctoral qualification in Education (for example, but not necessarily, related to the teaching of Mathematics, Digital Technologies, and/or Design and Technologies).
  2. Demonstrated potential or experience in research/scholarship, which may be evidenced by publications, success in attracting research support, and/or establishing and maintaining positive collaborations to realise new opportunities.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary debates, issues, theories and trends relating to teaching secondary Mathematics and Technologies subjects.
  4. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering innovative and inspirational approaches to teaching and a proven track record of exceptional teaching.
  5. Demonstrated ability to facilitate an adaptive, future orientation in teaching, curriculum development, and the coordination of teaching, which promotes innovative and real-world learning.

To be eligible for appointment to this role, you will possess the following:

  • Registered or registerable as a Teacher by the Queensland College of Teachers and additional certification required for ongoing practice or supervision in education settings (CPR, first aid, and full vaccination including an approved COVID19 vaccine).

Remuneration and Benefits

The classification for this position is:

  • Academic Level B (Lecturer) which has an annual remuneration range of $119,829 to $142,312 pa. Which is inclusive of an annual salary range of $101,257 to $120,255 pa, 17% superannuation and leave loading;
  • Academic Level C (Senior Lecturer) which has an annual remuneration range of $146,798 to $169,288 pa. Which is inclusive of an annual salary range of $124,046 to $143,050 pa, 17% superannuation and leave loading.
