The Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL)
The Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) is a high-profile central unit in the University under the Office of the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), which plays a key role in supporting the implementation of University policies in relation to teaching and learning. It provides academic leadership and professional support in the areas of curriculum innovation, enhancement and quality assurance, and faculty professional development. CETL has established a strong track record of active engagement with Faculties and across key international networks. CETL academics are research active in a range of fields across higher education. The Position
Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) (Ref.: 513740), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should possess:

  • a) a doctoral degree in Education/Higher Education or a relevant discipline,
  • b) robust theoretical and practical knowledge of the broad field of teaching and learning in higher education,
  • c) effective verbal and written English communication skills, well-developed interpersonal skills and a commitment to the scholarship of Teaching and Learning,
  • d) experience in instructional design (valuable attribute),
  • e) experience in delivering programmes for research postgraduate teaching assistants (as a distinct advantage),
  • f) fellowship of Advance HE.

Those with less experience may be considered for appointment as Lecturer.

The appointee will contribute to the Centre’s mission, primarily in the delivery, development and coordination of faculty-facing programmes ranging from certificate modules to award-bearing degrees (https://www.cetl.hku.hk/programmes/). The appointee may also be expected to contribute to the delivery of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice programme which will be offered to HKU academic staff from 2023.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable for the appointment as Senior Lecturer.
