About Role

The Deputy Head of School/Dean, Research and Innovation is responsible to the Head of School/Dean for the following activities: provision of research leadership and development, strategic planning and management of the School's research in order to achieve the strategic goals and performance targets of the School; delivery of high impact and influential research outcomes in focus areas; strengthening the School's research linkages with industries and other organisations nationally and globally developing international research linkages; promoting research collaboration within and across Schools, groups, centres and Institutes; and the recruitment of high quality research students and maintenance of a quality learning environment for research students. The Deputy Head of School/Dean, Research and Innovation is a member of the School executive team and will work collaboratively with all members of the management team and staff across the school to ensure the School achieves its strategic objectives. The position has a close working relationship with the College Deputy PVC Research & Innovation and other Deputy Head of School/Dean roles. The time fraction for the leadership role will be determined in line with the applicable workload allocation model. A position salary loading is also applicable.

About You

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to provide research leadership and expertise that will actively build improved research outcomes for the School and College.
  • Demonstrated understanding of University budget management and quality maintenance systems and good governance.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of University strategies and current/emerging government policy issues in relation to research and innovation.
  • Experience in providing research leadership and expertise that contributes to improved student outcomes.
  • Strong commitment to research development, learning and teaching quality, and industry and community engagement.
  • Substantial research track record and record of academic and professional achievement in a discipline area relevant to the School and the capacity to exercise academic leadership to enhance the standing of the School nationally and internationally.

About the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing This position sits in the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing, one of five schools that comprise the College of Business and Law. One of the largest Business Schools in the Asia Pacific region, the College of Business and Law our programs are delivered in Melbourne, Vietnam, Singapore, Shanghai and Jakarta, as well as through RMIT Online. The College has an annual budget of approximately $300 million, employs over 1200 staff and delivers programs to approximately 31,000 students.

The School leverages the common theoretical and practical ground between its three disciplines in its research and teaching (e.g., Behavioural Business). The School provides industry focused degrees that are responsive to the needs of the professions and conducts research that strengthens the communities we are part of. The Economics department houses over 20 on-going academic staff, including four full Professors. The department is diverse, being one of the few worldwide that are majority female and has staff from a wide range of countries.
