Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore is a multi-disciplinary institute committed to develop new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration and function.

A Research Assistant position is immediately available in Dr. Andrea Pavesi / Yusuke Toyama Joint Lab at the Mechanobiology institute (MBI), National university of Singapore (NUS).

The candidate will work on the role of the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in cancer progression and therapy using 3D microfluidic-based in vitro models. The candidate will maintain and prepare cells to set up the 3D microfluidic-based multicellular assay, perform live imaging by confocal microscopy, perform flow cytometry and analyze data with statistics. The work will involve patient-derived cancer cells and isolation of specific immune cells from blood samples.

Duties will also include managing safety in the lab, creating SOPs and lab risk assessments, maintaining lab inventories, perform other lab administrative duties and operations such as procurements and tracking lab budget. 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Biological sciences or Bioengineering.
  • Highly motivated, committed to laboratory work and able to work flexible hours
  • Precise, detailed-oriented and able to work independently
  • Experience with cell culture is preferred.
  • Experience with human and mouse blood/tissue sample handling and processing is preferred
  • Experience in flow cytometry for immune cells and confocal microscopy is preferred
  • Willing to learn new experimental procedures and able to troubleshoot assays
  • Excellent team player with great interpersonal skills and work ethics
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
