Macquarie University is seeking an experienced academic in the field of Media and Communications.

  • Salary Package: From $108,111 to $127,913 p.a. (Level B) plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading

The Role

The Department of Media, Communications, Creative Arts, Language and Literature (MCCALL) is seeking to appoint a highly qualified teaching-intensive academic as Lecturer (Level B) in Media and Communications. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of curriculum development and management, teaching excellence, and leadership and community engagement in Media and Communications. This new continuing role is in Macquarie University's Teaching & Leadership Job Family. The successful applicant will be expected to: develop and convene units in Media and Communications at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; contribute to a culture of scholarship; engage with relevant stakeholders in the community and industry; and make contributions to the administration and outreach activities of the Department, Faculty and University.

The Teaching & Leadership Academic is a specialist role for Academic staff who dedicate their workload contribution to Teaching, Teaching Leadership, (70%) and Service (30%). This role is required to demonstrate leadership in the design of curriculum and assessment delivery.

About You

You will be a highly motivated academic with a PhD in a relevant field of Media and Communications. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in teaching innovation in face-to-face, online, and blended modes of learning; and the ability to lead teaching teams. You will have demonstrated experience developing and delivering core units and content. You will demonstrate leadership capability in your capacity to engage with industry and community stakeholders.

The Department of Media, Communications, Creative Arts, Language, and Literature (MCCALL) is one of the largest and most diverse departments at Macquarie University. Media and Communications comprises a range of disciplines including interactive design, journalism and non-fiction, podcasting and radio, public relations and social media, and screen practice and production. Media and Communications is ranked at 4 (above world standard) in the 2018 Excellence in Research for Australia exercise.

  • PhD in Media and Communications (or relevant field)
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Media and Communications
  • Experience in unit co-ordination and delivering high quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of diverse teaching activities and formats, and support staffing pools in large teaching units
  • Demonstrated innovation in pedagogy, teaching practice, and online learning with positive outcomes
  • Demonstrated success in the academic leadership and the delivery/development of units using innovative approaches, including evidence of positive outcomes
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in outreach and engagement activities relevant to Media and Communications and to building collaborative relationships between the Department and external stakeholders and the general public, including industry and/or community organisations
