Position overview

The Fenner School of Environment and Society (FSES) conducts world-class, interdisciplinary research and education on complex environment-society systems. The Conservation and Landscape Ecology (CLE) research group comprises over 40 academic staff, research officers and post-graduate students. Led by Professor David Lindenmayer, the CLE group conducts research on conservation and landscape ecology with a particular focus on the long-term monitoring of biodiversity in south-eastern Australia.

Applicants must have a higher degree in statistics (or in an equivalent field with relevant experience), and be capable of resolving difficult statistical problems associated with large and complex ecological datasets. The successful candidate will work and collaborate on key statistical aspects of projects related to woodland ecology, forest ecology and management, wildlife biology, and conservation science.

The position includes work on study design, statistical analysis and modelling, interpretation, and publication of scientific articles, as well as working collaboratively with other statistical scientists where relevant. This role will be based at the Australian National University in Canberra, although flexible working arrangements may be negotiated once the successful applicant has demonstrated aptitude within the position.
