Project Manager, Semiconductor Industry

Job Description

The Office of Industry and Innovation (OII) in the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) has an opening for a new position. This role is expected to manage the link between industry and research and to direct and accelerate the commercialization of research activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Analyse and outline pain points and challenges of the semiconductor (manufacturing) industry that would be addressed by the processes and products developed at CA2DM at NUS, in particular by the capabilities of the novel supercapacitor developed by CA2DM
  • Identify companies in the semiconductor (manufacturing) industry as suitable collaboration partners for CA2DM
  • Elicit and analyse customer and market needs, translate them into material or process requirements, and define measurable specification
  • Create an iterative system of feedback loop between industry partners and researchers
  • Design proof of concept experiments which include manufacturing path, quality control testing methods, final application prototype and customer acceptance success criteria
  • Validate the scale-up feasibility of processes and products which are developed in CA2DM
  • Develop a cost model for potential manufacturing process and validate it according to the business case
  • Introduce the latest market needs and requirement from industrial partners
  • Conduct intellectual property review, identify and recommend possible licensing opportunities
  • Serve as liaison with NUS research offices, Office of Legal Affairs and Industry Liaison Office on issues of intellectual property, project and research collaboration agreements, material transfer agreements, non-disclosure agreements, etc
  • Partner and support OII Director in designing and refining technology-to-market strategies, including business-to-business marketing approaches, business development and application development templates, etc
  • Support OII strategy planning on future maturation plans and directions, in order to maintain the medium-term sustainability of the group’s research, development and innovation (RDI) capabilities
  • Promote open innovation and creative thinking throughout the group
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Master degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical) or material sciences
  • Minimum five years of working experience in the semiconductor industry or related industries
  • Minimum two years of working experience in business development and commercialization of products and/or services
  • Have project management experience
  • Strong and effective internal as well as external (customer facing) communication skills
  • Industry engineering experience in a multi-national company
  • Able to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and to make technical, administrative and procedural decisions and judgments
  • Ability to support and lead effectively numerous teams and interface with multiple stakeholders and report accordingly on a portfolio of maturing research projects
  • Hands-on, analytical, empathetic, creative, passionate professional committed to ongoing progress
  • Well-spoken and written English language ability is essential
  • Working experience in development of novel 2D nanomaterial related devices is desired but not mandatory
